The school uses the resources it receives for special educational needs in a variety of ways. In the Junior Cycle, support is provided through the formation of small class groups for English and Mathematics. On occasion, some team teaching occurs. Some additional support is also provided in Geography and History. Students are also withdrawn from particular subjects either in small groups or individually and support is tailored to their specific needs. In keeping with good practice guidelines, this support is discontinued when the particular learning need has been met. The student's progress continues to be closely monitored. In each class a system of differentiation is also used to tend to the individual needs of all students.
The special education needs department is coordinated by a member of staff who holds a specialist qualification in this area and there is a classroom dedicated to resource teaching and learning support use. This room contains much subject-related material, resources, books and storage facilities.
